Carbon Sequestration

As the forest grows, it will sequestrate (capture and store) carbon.

The New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries publish a Table that estimates the amount of carbon stored in indigenous forests. The Table shows estimates for the first 50 years and is based on growth of manuka trees. Manuka trees have a typical life of around 50 years, so the Table is not an accurate reflection of the long-lived species planted, and certainly not what the Kauri trees will store.

New Zealanders contribute 6.7 tonnes CO₂ per capita, so the mature forest will sequestrate annual CO₂ emissions for nearly 900 people (at least). 5,900 tonnes of carbon sequestration per annum is just the start!
